WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
In partnership with Pepperdine University’s Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership, C.A.R.’s Center for California Real Estate (CCRE) presents an educational opportunity for C.A.R. members with an option to earn a professional certificate. This series will be offered virtually and is free for C.A.R. members. Local governments and communities coexist in a unique relationship, that when healthy, can lead to successful partnership and projects. However, it is not always easy to understand how local government works, where the funding comes from, what the major issues are right now, and how you, as a community member, can get involved. In this dynamic, 6-week online professional certificate program, the Davenport Institute team will guide you through a deep dive into local government basics, funding, the relationship between community and local government, hot button issues, and ways to get involved in your local government & community.PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE INFORMATION
Please note the certificate is an optional added benefit of the series. You are welcome to participate in any or all the workshop sessions by attending the virtual sessions live or watching the recordings at your convenience.
If you do wish to earn a certificate, ALL of the requirements outlined below must be met.
- Supplemental Work – suggested reading will be provided prior to live sessions, selected by the instructor in the form of articles, case studies and/or videos.
- Attendance – ALL virtual sessions must be attended LIVE to meet certification standards. We also understand that life can be busy and scheduling conflicts outside your control may arise. Therefore, there is flexibility to miss AND make up a portion of your live attendance. To earn the certificate, you must do the following:
- Live attendance for at least 80% of the total workshop minutes.
- Make up any part of the session missed — whether it’s arriving late, signing off early, or logging off during the session — by watching the recording of the missed portion before the next session begins (within a week).
- Verify you’ve done so by sending an email to [email protected] with a brief two-sentence summary of the missed session time.
Each participant is responsible for tracking their own attendance via the live session attendance tracker tool. Each week, we will post attendance information from the previous session. Just enter your email address in the tracker after each session to see how many minutes you attended/missed and whether you need to watch the recordings. Please note that this tracker is not entirely automatic. It should be up to date within 24 hours after each session ends.
The entire workshop is 900 minutes of content over the course of 6 weeks. Over the course of the series, you may miss up to 180 minutes total (20%), provided you meet the requirements of making up missed session time. Should you miss more than 180 minutes of live sessions and/or if you do not make up the session time, you will no longer be eligible for the certificate.
- Course Completion – A digital certificate will be emailed to the email address provided 4-5 weeks after the course has concluded as long as all attendance requirements have been met.
